The final of the Catalan Chess Cup was played on the Mas Bes farm at Salitja, with Catalonia’s best clubs. The best Girona team was the one from Gerunda – Alonso, Valle, Molina, Salagran and Parramon – who finished third, while the title went to the grand favourite, EA Barcelona. Second place went to Sabadell. The Top 10 also included Figueres (6th) and Banyoles (7th).
Don’t forget that the preliminary rounds broke participation records, with 270 teams and over 1400 players among the 4 Territorial Leagues, a 20% increase on last year. 60 teams took part in the finals, divided into 6 categories. In the Absolut group, the champion was the Barcelona Chess School, followed by Colón Sabadell Chess and Gerunda.
